HOME-LEARNING DURING SCHOOL CLOSURE

Hi everyone!  We have one week’s work left.  I hate that the year ended like it did and I won’t get to see you again before you head to high school.  Enjoy your summer!  I wish you all the best of luck in high school!   When you get there, get involved.  There are SO many possibilities of clubs, sports, extra-curricular activities, interests...there’s something for everyone.  I hope all of you are well!  

Science Bonus Assignment for the week of May 11-15

**For students with internet:

Option 1 – * Click on the link to watch the video.  In an email, answer the following questions.

Answer the questions that go along with the video “Science Grade 8: Evolutionary History – Chapter 1, Lesson 1.3, Activities 1-2.”

  1. Describe 3 ways that a human’s arm and a cat’s front leg are similar.
  2. What is a shared structure?
  3. To see how two descendant species are connected, paleontologists examine the ________ _________. (This answer will come from How Are You Like a Blue Whale)
  4. In 3-4 sentences, summarize the “How Are You Like a Blue Whale” reading.

Option 2 – Sign in to your Google Classroom.  Follow the instructions there to complete the assignment.  Submit with finished.

 

**For students without technology/internet:

Student should watch one of the following programs on LPB and write a summary. The summary can be turned into me by email or the drop off box outside the CMS front doors.

  1. Which claim do you most agree with about the bones and why? (This question is an opinion, be sure to explain why you agree with the claim to get full credit)
  2. What is structure?
    1. A group of organisms of the same kind
    2. History of life on Earth
    3. How an organism behaves
    4. A part of an organism
  3. Using the reading “The Cat That Wasn’t a Cat at All”, what body structure did the first scientist use when he misidentified the fossil?
  4. Using the reading “The Cat That Wasn’t a Cat at All”, what body structure did the second scientist use to determine that the first scientist had misidentified the fossil? And what was the fossil CORRECTLY identified as? (Be sure to answer both questions to get full credit)
